Providing Clean Water

Epicenter Solutions provides Steri-Pens (picture on right), portable battery and solar powered UV/Ozone backpacks and other available sterilization units to purify water. We also train locals on how to effectively screen out and kill deadly germs from the available water sources using these tools so that the results are clean, safe drinking water for a whole village.

The solutions are simple.
The problems are preventable.

Water Problems
  • 1.1 billion, or about 1 in 6 people in the world, lack access to safe water near their homes for drinking, cooking, and washing.
  • 2 times as many -2.5 billion- almost 40 percent of the planet's population, lack a safe and effective way to dispose of their bodily waste.
  • Ten million people die of water borne diseases each year.
  • Two million of those deaths are children.
  • That is, nearly 5,000 children in the developing world die every day from diseases due to unsafe water, sanitation, or hygiene.
  • The average life expectancy in Malawi is a little over 35 years. Much of this is due to a lack of clean water.
  • There are 12 million people, of a population of 13 million, living below the poverty line. The poverty is both widespread and severe.

Water Solutions

  • Drilling wells where rigs can reach
  • Providing Sterilization where rigs cannot reach
  • Cleaning/sterilization of available water sources (rivers, lakes, etc.)

Our progressive solutions are to set up long term clean water resources. In some cases the sterilization systems are long term solutions because of the inaccessibility of the villages. Our maintenance on the sterilization systems include replacement of bulbs and filters once annually. In less remote villages, it is possible to drill new boreholes. The price of boreholes averages out to be $5,000.00. This includes the hand pump and the concrete platform around the borehole. We do not just drill wells but we also help the villages maintain them. We do this through maintenance training and providing replacement parts.
