Getting Involved Our working philosophy is the age old adage, “Give man a fish and he eats for a day, but teach a man to fish and he will have fish for life”, which is why we only give two meals a day and not three-to encourage a self-sustaining lifestyle. However, in this case we currently can only go so far. There are no men to teach! They are dying of HIV/AIDS, Malaria, etc. and not being replaced by other, younger men, so there is a shortage of labor to farm with. However, there is somewhat of a small workforce and we still encourage those who can to farm and supply their needs to do so. We currently have one vegetable farm which grows corn (sima), beans and squash. The farm is irrigated by a well with a treadle pump with hoses attached, leading out to the food plots. We are supplying fertilizers and treadle pumps, wells, and looking to further supply solar powered water pumps and tractors. We are also investigating growing soybeans through progressive techniques.
